Stay-at-Home Reading List

April 15, 2020
After watching tv, movies, and YouTube nonstop for a month, I've turned off my screens and started reading regularly again. I made a little list of the books at the top of my mind lately. From read, currently reading, to next on my list!

Books of the Month: May 2018

May 30, 2018

A few days ago I realized that I've read so many books this month. I don't feel strongly enough about any of them to do a full book talk, so instead, I'm doing a quick roundup/recap!

Book Talk: Difficult Women by Roxane Gay

April 13, 2018
Difficult Women by Roxane Gay

I'm excited about today's post because it's a book talk for 21 books! Kidding! It is for Roxane Gay's Difficult Women which a collection of short stories, but I'm not going to go deep into every single story. Today, we're discussing three of my favorite and in my opinion, the most thought-provoking stories.

Essentialism - What Does it Mean?

Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown

Today's post is a bit of a mashup between lifestyle and reading, and I genuinely want to hear what you think about it. Whether you've read or are interested in reading Greg McKeown's Essentialism or not, read through this post and leave a comment with your thoughts and opinions!

Book Talk: Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff

February 6, 2018

I wish I'd never read Lauren Groff's Fates and Furies...so I'd have another chance to experience it for the first time. To be honest, I picked it out at the library because the cover looked interesting, so I had pretty low expectations. Little did I know, I would continue to think about the story months after I finished reading it.

Book Talk: Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty

January 30, 2018

At this point, Liane Moriarty is a household name as HBO's Big Little Lies brought her to the attention of entertainment lovers everywhere. A couple of years ago I wrote a book talk on Liane's novel The Husband's Secret and since she has become one of my favorite contemporary fiction authors. I recently read Truly Madly Guilty and it was just as great as I expected!

Book Talk: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

This past Christmas, my mom surprised me with Angie Thomas' The Hate U Give. Surprisingly, I hadn't heard much about this book before reading it even though it was one of the most talked about books of 2017!

Book Talk: The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney

December 8, 2017
the nest by cynthia d'aprix sweeney

I want to start off by saying that I am more excited than any of you know for this post! I'm writing a week in advance because I just finished the book and I need to express my love for it right. now. In all honesty, I was first attracted to The Nest because of its cover. The mint and gold quilted cover spoke to me and I immediately added it to my to-read list. I started it over Thanksgiving, without knowing anything about it, because I needed a break from nonfiction and memoirs. Starting with Half Broke Horses, I've read so many of that genre in the past few years, including An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth and Wild. A couple of months ago, I read Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff and realized that I wanted to read more contemporary fiction. Fates and Furies is one of my new favorites, and without realizing it I picked The Nest, which is eerily similar.

Book Talk: Life in Motion by Misty Copeland

October 24, 2017
life in motion an unlikely ballerina by misty copeland

Welcome back! This book talk is a bit delayed because I wanted to finish the book before writing this post. I started Life in Motion back in August and it's taken 2 months to read, not because I wasn't completely captivated by the story, but because I started the book during one of the busiest times of the year, the week before I moved to college. Now that my life has (somewhat) settled down and I was able to get Life in Motion from the library, I sat down in front of the fireplace (in the student center at my school...not the same as the one in my bedroom at home but it'll do) and contentedly finished the last few chapters.

Currently Reading: The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

September 7, 2017

Today I want to do a little book talk on a book that I'm currently reading, Garth Stein's The Art of Racing in the Rain. This book was super popular a few years back and I added it to my "to read" list on Goodreads and I'm just now getting around to reading it!

2017 Summer Reading List

August 15, 2017

I leave for school in exactly 9 days, so for me, summer is pretty much over! I've had such a great senior summer; spending time with my friends and family, traveling, and relaxing. Reading has taken up a lot of my time this summer, so I want to share four books that I've read/am currently reading!

Book Talk: Unfiltered by Lily Collins

July 22, 2017
Lily Collins' debut novel Unfiltered

I have been such a huge Lily Collins fan since I first saw her in The Blind Side about 8 years ago! That's kind of crazy to think that I've been a fan of her for almost half of my life! Stuck in Love is one of my favorite movies and I cry every time I see Love, Rosie. I wanted to read the book sooner rather than later, because in her new Netflix film To the Bone her character is struggling with an eating disorder which is something that Lily Collins has had experience with. It was important to me to read her story and gain some perspective before watching the movie, and conveniently one of my best friends, Allie, got me the book for my birthday (she knows me so well)!

Favorite Books for Every Genre

June 17, 2017

Hi everyone! If you've been reading for a while, you know that I like love books. While I definitely have my favorite genres, I can enjoy books from (almost) all of them; so I thought I would compile a list of my favorite books from each genre! Leave a comment letting me know what your favorite books are!

Book + Movie Talk: Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

March 9, 2017
Review and comparison of Lauren Oliver's Before I Fall book and movie

Hello everyone! I'm back today discussing one of my all-time favorite books: Before I Fall. I've been a huge Lauren Oliver fan since middle-school, not only because we share a name, but also because she's an amazing writer and her words have a way of taking me out of reality and making me think. This past weekend, I went to see Before I Fall in theaters with one of my good friends Allie, so I wanted to share my thoughts on the book and movie separately and also comparing the two!

Book Talk: An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth by Col. Chris Hadfield

February 16, 2017
A review of Col Chris Hadfield's An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth

I've been reading An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth for about a month now, and I'm barely halfway through it. It's actually not too long, but I've been struggling to find the time to read it. I'm still going to share it with you because from what I have read it is amazing! I'm not and never have been a fan of non-fiction, especially not when it has to do with space travel. This book is different because while it's full of true information regarding astronauts and space travel, it's also a memoir of the life of Col. Chris Hadfield.

Book Talk: Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht

December 1, 2016

It's taken me a few days to get back into the swing of things since being off for Thanksgiving break, but I'm finally back! For me, Thanksgiving was restful yet busy. Somehow between stuffing my face with my sister's lasagna and Black Friday shopping into the early morning, I found time to read.

Girlboss Radio

November 10, 2016

It's been a while, over two weeks, but I'm back today to talk about something a little different, a podcast. Last October, I blogged about a book called #GIRLBOSS that I had just started reading. I finished it shortly after writing that post and I ended up loving, Sophia Amoruso's story is captivating and well-told, while giving insightful advice about the fashion industry and the world of business. A few months ago, I found out about Sophia Amoruso's podcast by the same name through one of my favorite bloggers, Nicole, who writes Empire Styles.

Book Talk: The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty

July 17, 2016
{via: goodreads}

I finished reading Liane Moriarty's The Husband's Secret last week, and for almost the entire book I was sure that I wasn't going to be writing a book talk about it. Then, I read the epilogue and I was completely thrown for a loop. While I enjoyed the book a lot, it wasn't the type of book that made me think really hard or guess what was going to happen next. It was kind of way that my mind could relax and enjoy the drama without thinking too hard...until I read the epilogue.

Book + Movie Talk: Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

July 3, 2016

When I read Me Before You over a year ago, I had no idea it was going to be made into a film. Jojo Moyes' novel moved me in unexpected ways and seeing it on the big screen was (almost) everything I wanted from the film.

Author Spotlight: Jeannette Walls

I wouldn't be surprised if you have already heard of Jeannette Walls due to the boom in popularity of her novels the year before last. In case you haven't heard of her, she's the author of The Glass Castle, The Silver Star, and my most recent read, Half Broke Horses.
